EPRI launches project to study the performance
and emissions of utility gas turbines fired
with bio-diesel.
Utilities are invited to join an EPRI supplemental
project that will evaluate the performance, emissions,
and effects on engine and fuel system components of
firing bio-diesel fuel in a utility gas turbine or
combined-cycle power plant.
The project is expected to yield important information
on the technical and economic feasibility of using
bio-diesel blends in gas turbines to generate electric
power. The results may also be useful in supporting
air permit acquisition for future power plants as
well as decision making on the use of bio-diesel by
power generators to meet Renewable Portfolio Standards
(RPS) or reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. For
