EPRI launches project to study the performance and emissions of utility gas turbines fired with bio-diesel.

Utilities are invited to join an EPRI supplemental project that will evaluate the performance, emissions, and effects on engine and fuel system components of firing bio-diesel fuel in a utility gas turbine or combined-cycle power plant.

The project is expected to yield important information on the technical and economic feasibility of using bio-diesel blends in gas turbines to generate electric power. The results may also be useful in supporting air permit acquisition for future power plants as well as decision making on the use of bio-diesel by power generators to meet Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) or reduce the consumption of fossil fuels.
