CO2 Capture and Storage (Program 165)

Progress continues at both the Southeast and Western pilot storage sites.

Data are being collected and provided to the permitting agencies at the Southeast (SECARB) site, while site selection is moving toward a decision at the Western (WESTCARB) site.

At the Mississippi test site (SECARB), the project team provided requested maps to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality in support of a Class V Underground Injection Control (UIC) permit application. The team also continued to collect and analyze data on the selected saline reservoir in the Lower Tuscaloosa Formation and its confining strata. Programmatically, solicitation and review of cost quotations for field services and materials for the injection pilot project have begun. Work is also underway on a site access agreement with Mississippi Power Co.

WESTCARB members have selected two potential sites for the pilot project, both in Arizona. Identification of the actual site for injection is not being released pending local public acceptance meetings. For more information, contact Richard Rhudy at 650.855.2421 (rrhudy@epri.com).
