Operating Systems Supported by EPRI-developed Software

Effective January 01, 2008, the only Microsoft operating systems supported by EPRI-developed software are Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista. Because Microsoft no longer supports Windows 95, 98, NT, and ME, the anti-virus software companies (e.g., McAfee, Norton) no longer provide updates or support for the anti-virus definitions. Therefore EPRI no longer officially supports these older Microsoft operating systems.

What does this mean?

The only operating systems officially supported by EPRI-developed software are those supported regularly by the operating system vendors and the anti-virus vendors. EPRI-developed software may also run on unsupported operating systems. For software that runs on the Microsoft Windows platform, that means the currently distributed software must at least run on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista.

What about older software currently in distribution?

Software currently distributed by EPRI on platforms no longer supported will be checked to see if they work on current supported operating systems. If the software does not work, the software project manager will be notified and either the software can be updated by the software project manager to a supported operating system or the software will be archived.
