Nuclear Gets a Second Look from 60 Minutes News Program

In a segment that aired on Sunday, April 8, the CBS news program 60 Minutes analyzed the commercial prospects of nuclear power over the next few decades. France provided the main backdrop for the story, with correspondent Steve Kroft citing nuclear's prominent role in providing France with the lowest electricity bills in Europe, clean air, and lucrative power exports to Germany, Italy and England.

Featuring interviews with Areva CEO Anne Lauvergeon and U.S. Department of Energy Deputy Secretary Clay Sell, the segment presents a balanced view of nuclear power - highlighting the tremendous amount of opportunity that exists due to climate change concerns and the high price of oil, weighed against persistent concerns about spent fuel waste storage, high capital costs, and uncertain public opinion.
