Researchers Characterize Radiofrequency Emissions from Itron Smart Meters
An Investigation of Radiofrequency Fields Associated with the Itron Smart Meter (EPRI Product 1021126). Installation of smart meters in residential and commercial settings to measure electricity use and transmit that information via wireless communication networks has raised public concerns about potential health effects of exposure to radiofrequency (RF) emissions from the meters. This Technical Report provides objective information about RF emissions gleaned from field and laboratory measurements of Itron smart meters, supplemented by theoretical modeling studies. The results indicate that "RF fields from the investigated smart meters are well below the maximum permitted exposure established by the Federal Communications Commission for the general public."
