EPRI Participates in International Climate
Meetings
John Novak participated as a nongovernment observer
at a series of follow-up meetings to the Copenhagen
Accord; the meetings were held May 31-June 11 in Bonn,
Germany. The major issue at these meetings was discussions
on a new draft negotiating text for a comprehensive
global agreement under the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term
Cooperative Action (AWG-LCA). John was asked to brief
the European Union Flexible Mechanisms Group on lessons
learned from the development of offsets leading to the
Kyoto Protocol and the Clean Development Mechanism in
order to provide insights into the development of potential
sectoral crediting. He also met with members of the
Expert Group on Technology Transfer to provide input
on the report under development on options to facilitate
international collaborative technology research and
development. The report will be submitted to the Subsidiary
Body for Scientific and Technological Advice in December
in Cancun, Mexico. The Group expressed interest in an
EPRI "think piece" as input to the report, and EPRI has begun its development. |
