EPRI Report Examines Use of Variable Speed Drives for Fish Protection at Cooling Water Intakes
Utility of Variable Speed Drives for Fish Protection at Cooling Water Intakes (EPRI product 1021373).  This Technical Update provides information about the utility of using variable frequency drives, a technology that can reduce entrainment and impingement of fish and shellfish at power plant cooling water intakes by incremental reductions in circulating water intake flows.  Reduction of impingement and entrainment at cooling water intakes is the objective of Clean Water Act Section 316(b) requirements being developed by the Environmental Protection Agency.  For more information, contact Doug Dixon, (804) 642-1025, ddixon@epri.com.
