on Technology Innovation: A Case Study of Seambiotic's
Research on Utility-Connected Algae Systems
(EPRI Product 1020807). This report is a case
study of a coal-fired power plant in Israel that is
connected to a pilot-scale algal carbon capture system.
The facility cultivates marine photosynthetic algae
in open ponds using CO2 withdrawn from the
utility's flue gas stream. Algal biomass is then
used as feedstock for pharmaceuticals or other chemical
products. The information in the report demonstrates
one example of the technical feasibility of the biosolar
energy conversion of CO2 contained in flue
gases into algae, and provides the basis for further
