Researchers Develop Improved Natural Emissions Database
Smith, S.N., and S.F. Mueller. "Modeling natural emissions in the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) Model-I: Building an emissions data base," Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2010, 10(10):4931-4952.  This paper describes EPRI co-sponsored research to develop a natural emissions database for the continental United States and surrounding portions of Canada and Mexico.  The natural emissions database complements the anthropogenic emissions inventory used by the Environmental Protection Agency Community Multiscale Air Quality Model.  The database includes particles and gases from natural sources such as soils, animals, fires, lightning, geothermal features, and oceans.  For more information, contact Eladio Knipping, (202) 293-6343, eknippin@epri.com.
