Paper Advances Understanding of Mercury Cycling in the North Pacific Ocean
Sunderland, EM, et al. “Mercury sources, distribution, and bioavailability in the North Pacific Ocean: Insights from data and models,” Global Biogeochemical Cycles, 23 (2), 2009 (EPRI Product E230563).  This research uses mercury sounding data collected from 16 hydrographic stations in the North Pacific and regional results from EPRI global mercury deposition modeling to develop patterns of oceanic mercury transport between hemispheres.  These transport patterns influence levels of methylmercury in North Pacific fish, a primary source of mercury exposure for the U.S. population.  For more information, contact Leonard Levin, (650) 855-7929, llevin@epri.com.
